Rarely have we seen a person fail who has thoroughly followed our path.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those who\ndo not recover are people who cannot or will not completely give themselves to this simple\nprogram, usually men and women who are constitutionally incapable of being honest with\nthemselves. There are such unfortunates. They are not at fault; they seem to have been born\nthat way. They are naturally incapable of grasping and developing a manner of living which\ndemands rigorous honesty. Their chances are less than average. There are those, too, who\nsuffer from grave emotional and mental disorders, but many of them do recover if they have\nthe capacity to be honest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our stories disclose in a general way what we used to be like, what happened, and what\nwe are like now. If you have decided you want what we have and are willing to go to any\nlength to get it \u2014 then you are ready to take certain steps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At some of these we balked. We thought we could find an easier, softer way. But\nwe could not. With all the earnestness at our command, we beg of you to be fearless and\nthorough from the very start. Some of us have tried to hold on to our old ideas and the result\nwas nil until we let go absolutely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remember that we deal with alcohol \u2014 cunning, baffling, powerful! Without help it is too\nmuch for us. But there is One who has all power \u2014 that One is God. May you find Him now!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Half measures availed us nothing. We stood at the turning point. We asked His protection\nand care with complete abandon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many of us exclaimed: \u201cWhat an order! I can\u2019t go through with it.\u2019\u2019<\/strong> Do not be discouraged.\nNo one among us has been able to maintain anything like perfect adherence to these principles.\nWe are not saints. The point is, that we are willing to grow along spiritual lines. The principles\nwe have set down are guides to progress. We claim spiritual progress rather than spiritual\nperfection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our description of the alcoholic, the chapter to the agnostic, and our personal adventures\nbefore and after make clear three pertinent ideas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • a) That we were alcoholic and could not manage our own lives.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • b) That probably no human power could have relieved our alcoholism.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • c) That God could and would if He were sought.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
